CV and ATS guide for data analysts
They look for SQL plus one visualisation tool, then whether you owned a metric or only refreshed a pack. Name the grain of the data.
Common ATS gaps
- JD says Tableau / Power BI / Looker while the CV only says “dashboards.”
- SQL buried in a skills table that two-column layouts drop from the parse.
- No dataset size, refresh cadence, or decision attached to the chart.
Keywords that only count with proof
Write the tool you actually shipped in: SQL dialect, warehouse, and BI product. Add a [X] for time saved or error reduced only if you will fill it.
Common questions
- Is Excel enough if the JD asks for SQL?
- No. If the JD named SQL, a spreadsheet-only CV will miss the term. Do not add SQL unless you wrote queries you can defend.
- Should I list every chart type?
- No. Name the tool and one decision the chart changed. A gallery of chart types is stuffing.
